Why have they never excavated inside Auschwitz?

We all know this picture. It is apparently one of four taken secretly inside Auschwitz in summer 1944. The claim is that it shows fellow jewish inmates burning the bodies of just gassed jews.

It is said the exact location of this picture is known due to the fence and trees behind.

If this is true why is it not marked inside the camp by a display board or marker and why did they not excavate?

I have some serious doubts about the veracity of this picture and the claims that go along with it.

That’s not entirely true. The Soviet War Crimes Investigation Team conducted an excavation as soon as they had managed to drag a film team into the camp.

They found several hundred corpses lying around the camp and in a mass grave. The Germans had for some reason forgotten to burn those (to hide their crimes) in their fat-fueled ditches and super-crematories with a capacity of over 40,000 to 90,000 incinerations per month. In addition, they found underwear, hair and other things which is undeniable evidence of the 4,000,000 victims of Auschwitz.

IMT, Vol. XXXIX, pp. 241 f., Doc. USSR-8: Report of the Investigative Commission on the Liberation of Auschwitz.
1.) By shootings and monstrous tortures the Germans exterminated in the Auschwitz camp over four million nationals of the Soviet Union, Poland, France, Belgium, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Hungary and other countries. (p. 242)
In 1943, the unburned bones began to be milled for industrial purposes and sold to the "Strem" Company for the production of superphosphate. Written evidence has been found in the camp showing that 112 to. and 600 kg of bone meal from human corpses were sent to the "Strem" Company for shipment. (p. 244)
The judicial-medical commission has made a postmortem examination of 536 prisoner corpses found on the camp grounds. It has been determined that in 474 cases (88.3 percent) exhaustion was the cause of death. (p. 256)

And then there are the drillings of the “Hydrokop” corporation, which was founded in 1967 but managed to find human ashes, bones and hair in 1965 in the Auschwitz ponds anyway. Germar Rudolf writes about this in his Report:
In 1966 the Auschwitz State Museum commissioned the Polish company Hydrokop to drill into the soil of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp and to analyze the samples. It is not known whether this research was done in the context of the Frankfurt Auschwitz trial. The results, however, vanished into the museum’s archives: they have never been released, which by itself is revealing enough. Years later, however, several pages from this report were photocopied and sent to the German revisionist publisher Udo Walendy, who published them with commentary in an issue of his periodical.[91] Traces of bones and hair allegedly found at several places might indicate mass graves. The few pages published by Walendy, however, do not reveal whether these findings led to an excavation or a subsequent forensic study of the traces. It is not even evident whether the bone and hair samples collected are human or animal remains. (Since Birkenau had a butchery to provide the camp with meat, animal offal might have been disposed in garbage trenches in the camp’s vicinity.[92])

Here are the relevant pages of the “report” from Historische Tatsachen no. 60, pages 7 and 8:

Udo Walendy added two pages of commentary, he criticized, e.g. that the drillings had been conducted only to 3 meters of depth, while “eye-witnesses” describe ditches of 6 meters of depth, that hair would have been burnt with the rest of the bodies, and so on.

There’s an old thread on this topic: viewtopic.php?t=1926
To provide soap for Germany … [Prof. Spanner] used, in the mode of the Shakespearean witches, racially and ethnically diverse corpses in his experiments … This defies the popular perception that the soap was made of “pure Jewish fat.” … We may consider this misperception a curious symptom of a purist and essentialist reading, or, at least, note that the tension between essentialism and utilitarianism reaches its peak in this misreading.

If they found anything worth showing, they'd have published the full report on this. But, they didn't.
If they published something, it wouldn't have to mean anything though. There is no such thing like a company or public figure doing something diverting from the party line in a communist country.
That there is a connection with the Frankfurt Auschwitz Trial is likely. The Trial was 1963-1965 in Germany and Poles were 'witnesses' at those trials. Witnesses who were coached by their gov. something that was even subject at the trial. Poland having occupied vast German territories of Silesia, Pomerania and Prussia had of course no interest that the Auschwitz gas chamber myth would be killed off for lack of real evidence. So you can imagine that those witnesses were under quite some pressure and preselected for the purpose of what they wanted to achieve with the trial.

The judge stipulated in the verdict that there was no physical evidence for what was alleged by the accusation in the trial. His cop out was that they had 'testimony' and that they were very careful to only take the 'reliable testimony'. While not all the witnesses were unreliable or dishonest. I yet got to see one honest, reliable witness for homicidal gassing that has no ulterior motive for what he says. And well, there was also tons of testimony to the contrary. People who 'did not know' anything about the 'extermination project using gas chambers'.

The Communists would of course have noticed that the lack of 'physical evidence' was noticed by the court and perhaps also by observers that were not dimwits entirely. So there was a motive to engage in some forensics, there. Also to make sure they'd know what was true and what wasn't.
