The real German gas vans

Vehicle for Decontamination of Clothing (Kfz. 93)

This has a large, closed body with heavy doors at the center of the left side, giving access to the chamber in which contaminated articles are arranged for treatment. Decontamination may be carried out by steam or hot-air treatment, mixed with suitable chemicals where necessary. The vehicle is completely equipped with an oil-fired boiler, fans, water tanks, etc., necessary for the work. This machine, like the personnel decontamination truck, is a six-wheel Henschel 23 feet 3 inches in length, 8 feet 2 inches in width, and 10 feet in height, weighing 9.7 tons.

But in spite of those gassing technologies in their possession the Nazis allegedly preferred to gas numerous people with Diesel CO-free fumes sent in a hermetically sealed box that would have quickly exploded because of the internal pressure and killed nobody in sensible periods of time because of the too low level of carbon monoxide in Diesel fumes.

I don't know if those delousing gas vans gave the Soviets the idea of the alleged "Nazi gas vans" but those murder weapons were first talked about during Soviet 'trials' in 1943 (Krasnodar, Kharkov). I've also heard stories of Soviet murder gas vans used during Stalin's purges of the 1930's but I don't know if those stories are reliable or not.

It does seem as though the holyhoax fantasies have some basis in fact. Much like someone watching children playing on a playground jungle gym being inspired to write a horror story about children being tortured on some strange and twisted mechanical device. Actual gas chambers used for fumigating clothes, bedding, etc. become homicidal underground caverns capable of murdering thousands at a time. It makes me wonder what the inspiration was for some of the really bizarre stories such as the pedal powered brain bashing machine. I find it hard to believe that such a story could be pure invention. Something must have 'lit the fuse', so to speak. I wonder if it would be possible to track down the reality behind such fantasies? I haven't a clue of how to go about it but I'm sure that it would make an interesting read if it could be done.

On edit. Could the homicidal pedal powered device have been inspired by something as mundane as an old foot cranked grindstone? I've seen such grinding wheels that were used to sharpen cutlery, farm tools such as scythes and so on. Oh well, it's probably one of those little holyhoax mysteries that will remain forever unknown.

Frantic German Efforts To
Check Epidemic

LONDON, January 4.

The Nazis, according to reports
from neutral countries, are now
facing a new and terrifying enemy
the disease of typhus.

In October, at a council meet-
ing of the Health Department in
Poland, a Dr. Buennann reported
that the seasonal Incidence of
spotted typhus in the Warsaw dis-
trict was considerably higher than
usual, the chief cause being the
Jewish quarter. He went on to Eay
that as Polish doctors had shown
themselves quite incapable of
dealing with the situation, the
German administration had set up
plague centres for disinfecting
Jewish houses and other preven-
tive measures.

These precautions were intended
to prevent the disease from spread
ing to the German community,
and. even more dangerous, to the
Germany army. Like all hastily
improvised preventive measures,
they were unsuccessful.

The conditions created by the
Germans In the countries they
bad conquered were so bad that
typhus steadily gained ground. In
November a police notice, appeared
in the "Danziger Vorposten" for
bidding persons to congregate in
the urban district of Gdynia and
mating compulsory the notification
of feverish complaints.

By December the Germans had
publicly recognised the general
danger. Not only were whole dis-
tricts of Poland isolated as a pre-
caution, but German officials and
settlers were specially warned that
spotted typhus was as prevalent
in winter as in summer and given
a long list of measures they should
take for safety." Simultaneously.
Jewish doctors, nurses and sani-
tary workers in Warsaw were re-
called and even allowed to work in
German hospitals.

In the German occupied put of
the Ukraine all schools have been
closed indefinitely as "a serious
epidemic has broken out." The
population of this territory and
those of the Baltic States and
north-east Poland have been for-
bidden to travel; into-the Reich.
German officials and military ar-
riving from these countries have
to undergo a period of quarantine.

Mobile de-lousing squads with
special vans are working hard In
the regions bordering on Russia
where the Germans are organising
winter quarters for their soldiers.
Leave for both officers and men
from the eastern front has been
cancelled.

Conditions in Europe are such
that, in spite of German vigilance,
the disease has every chance of
spreading. Already it is reported
to be raging in a number of Ru-
manian units stationed in the
area of Bug.

The gas-van story (and so also the whole extermination-camp story, since Chelmno's alleged gas vans supposedly turned that place into Nazi Germany's very 1st extermination camp) was clearly a mixture of the [real] German mobile delousing squads fighting typhus with "special-purpose [decontamination] vehicles" (Sonderkraftfahrzeugen ) on the eastern front (sanitary purpose) and the [fictional] gas-chamber story concocted by the London Daily Telegraph during the First World War & rehashed by the very same newspaper in June 1942 (propaganda purpose).

It seems inspired by bolt guns.

A captive bolt (also variously known as a captive bolt gun, cattle gun, stunbolt gun, bolt gun, or stunner) is a device used for stunning animals prior to slaughter.

The goal of captive bolt stunning is to inflict a forceful strike on the forehead with the bolt in order to induce unconsciousness. For the non-penetrating bolt gun variation, the bolt may or may not destroy part of the brain, while brain tissue is always destroyed with the penetrating bolt gun.

The bolt consists of a heavy rod made of corrosion-resistant alloys, such as stainless steel. It is held in position inside the barrel of the stunner by means of rubber washers. The bolt is usually not visible in a stunner in good condition. The bolt is actuated by a trigger pull and is propelled forward by compressed air, a spring mechanism, or by the discharge of a blank round ignited by a firing pin. After striking a shallow but forceful blow on the forehead of the animal, spring tension causes the bolt to recoil back into the barrel.

The captive bolt pistol was invented in 1903 by Hugo Heiss, former director of a slaughterhouse in Straubing, Germany.[1]

In the penetrating type, the stunner uses a pointed bolt which is propelled by pressurized air, spring mechanism, or a blank cartridge. The bolt penetrates the skull of the animal, enters the cranium, and catastrophically damages the cerebrum and part of the cerebellum. Concussion causes destruction of vital centers of the brain and an increase in intracranial pressure, causing the animal to lose consciousness. This method is currently the most effective type of stunning, since it physically destroys brain matter (increasing the probability of a successful stun), while also leaving the brain stem intact and thus ensuring the heart continues to pump during the exsanguination.[2]
