False legs and prosthetics found at Auschwitz.
Bear with me a little as I need to explain the background to this point and question.
Last weekend there was a tribute programme on the BBC tv all about the best TV interviewer of a generation or more. Michael Parkinson. He defined the saturday evening in-depth late night celebrity interview. His show was watched by millions and made him very famous though he was already an accomplished journalist. He had literally everyone famous on his show; people like Jimmy Cagney who wouldn't be interviewed by others came to Parky. Muhammed Ali, Orson Wells, Lauren Bacall. They all came.
So the show the other night was a bunch of his famous clips with him giving a comment or two about the guest and his impressions of them. Parky is now pretty old (83) and I guess this was the Beeb's way of saying farewell old friend.
One of his most profound interviews in his own estimation was that of Jacob Bronowski, he of The Ascent of Man series in which he reaches the final chapter/episode at Auschwitz and does a piece to camera about the horror of the Nazis and the genocide of the jews. He then walks into the pond of ashes up to his ankles and declares something like 'into this pond were flushed the ashes of four million jews murdered here at Auschwitz'. You can find the clip on youtube and if you haven't seen it you should because it is powerful stuff.
Of course the problem is that 4m jews or even non jews were never even in the camp let alone murdered so his claim was a lie.
But in that interview with parky he also talked about the large room full of wooden legs, prosthetics and other limb paraphernalia. He offered that as partial proof of the holocaust having happened.
So my question is this - is what he says about the room of limbs true and why would someone who arrived at the camp with a tin leg have it removed from them? My own theory is this claim is mainly untrue as much as the claim about 3000 twin children being in the camp. It was all theatre and made to look like a horror show but probably wasn't the case at all.
Can you shed any light on this please?

If those prosthetics did exist, then they'd be on display somewhere in the main camp, as an exhibit. Seeing is believing for me.

Bringing a pile of prosthetics to Auschwitz for propaganda purposes is no different than putting a lamp on a table at Buchenwald. The hurdle is trying to get the general audience to think in those terms.

ironically he quotes Oliver Cromwell "I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it possible you may be mistaken"

The images of personal possessions are a psychological trick, just like the fade to silent credits, the guilty building shots and the use of sinister music. All designed to play on the emotions and stifle critical thinking. The best example was the witness at the Eichman "trial" who went into the witness box and then pulled out a bag of shoes as evidence.
