Anti-Semitic letter stirs turmoil in GOP primary

Thursday, May 15, 2003

Republican Assembly candidate Garabed "Chuck" Haytaian said this week that
he received an anti-Semitic letter last month from a contributor to the
re-election campaign of his primary opponent, Assemblyman Michael Doherty.

After learning about it, Doherty (R-Warren) quickly denounced the
letter-writer and said he refunded the campaign contribution.

The letter to Haytaian was dated April 9 and apparently written by Karl
Kettler, a Republican county committeeman in Hunterdon County who donated
$500 to Doherty's campaign on April 1.

Handwritten at the bottom of a form letter Haytaian had sent to voters, the
note criticized Haytaian's record in office and included this sentence: "You
helped shove phony 'Holocaust' education down everyone's throat to help your
Jew friends lie to our children and waste our tax dollars." It concluded:
"GET LOST CHUCK!!" and was signed "Kettler."

Haytaian, a former Assembly speaker, sponsored a law in 1994 that required
New Jersey schools to teach about the Holocaust and other instances of
genocide.

Doherty said he "had absolutely no idea Mr. Kettler has these anti-Semitic
beliefs." He said he returned Kettler's $500 donation.

"I absolutely reject the comments he made to Mr. Haytaian. It is a shock to
me that someone would have those views in 2003," he said.

Doherty also called on Kettler, whom he said he had met at political events
but does not know well, to resign his committee seat.

Kettler refused to comment yesterday.

"Nothing to say," Kettler told a reporter who went to his home in Raritan
Township. Asked again about the statements attributed to him, Kettler said,
"I don't even know what was said," then closed his door.

Haytaian said the letter-writer was trying to "revise history."

Haytaian said the letter-writer was trying to "revise history."

"This is hate mail. He threatened my ethnic background and the ethnic background of Jews," said Haytaian, who is Armenian-American. "What -- I can't have Jewish friends? These are the radicals that Doherty has behind him."

Well yes, all research "revises" the previous, that is what real academics is about. It's revealing that only the 'holoca$t' as alleged is off limits.....since it cannot stand up to scrutiny.

I saw nothing the piece which indicates a threat to Haytaian; again, the note stated:
"You helped shove phony 'Holocaust' education down everyone's throat to help your Jew friends lie to our children and waste our tax dollars." It concluded: "GET LOST CHUCK!!" and was signed "Kettler."

So where's the 'antisemitism', where's the 'threat'? Is referring to Haytaian's Jew friends as his "Jew friends" to be considered 'antisemitic', even though it's true?
Is challenging the "phony" holocau$t as alleged 'antisemitic'? ....even though representatives from the True Believers are no match for informed Revisionists.

If it can't happen as alleged, then it didn't.
