Hoess "memoir"?

Postby Radar » 1 decade 7 years ago (Mon Sep 26, 2005 2:42 pm)

In the 1998 book "A Nation on Trial" by Norman Finkelstein and Ruth Bettina Birn the authors criticize Daniel Goldhagen's widely acclaimed but absurd racist book "Hitler's Willing Executioners" in which he charged that all Germans possess a built-in homicidal urge to kill Jews. However, in the section of the book written by Finkelstein he makes the following assertion about Rudolph Hoess:

"In his perversely sanctimonious postwar memoir, 'Commandant of Auschwitz' (generally accepted by scholars as representing honest, if barbaric, sentiments), the exemplary Nazi Rudolph Hoess similarly recalled being 'deeply marked' and 'tormented' by the 'mass extermination, with all the attendant circumstances' of this 'monstrous "work" ' "

What is this "memoir"? It certainly isn't the famous Hoess affidavit used at Nuremberg? Could it have been the "autobiography" Hoess wrote while under Polish communist control just before his execution? If so, what "scholars" would credit such a document?

This kind of thing is typical of Finkelstein who does great work exposing the abuses of the "Holocaust Industry" as in his recent book "Beyond Chutzpah" undressing the fraudulent Alan Dershowitz and the abuse of the "anti-Semitism" charges hurled about so freely today and the same Finkelstein who said in his book "The Holocaust Industry" that "Much of the literature on Hitler's Final Solution is worthless as scholarship. Indeed the field of Holocaust studies is replete with nonsense if not sheer fraud", yet at the same time, perhaps to cover his back he often feels compelled to take cheap shots at Holocaust revisionists, calling them "flat earth" believers, etc.

Anyway, does anyone know where he got the idea of the "memoir" cited above?

If you mean, what is it, the latest version is:

Death Dealer : the memoirs of the SS Kommandant at Auschwitz / by Rudolf Höss ; edited by Steven Paskuly (NY: 1992).

There is also an earlier version edited by Martin Broszat from the 1960s.

I don't know where Finkelstein got the expression "memoirs" from.

But the subtitel of my copy of" Kommandant in Auschwitz" is:

"Autobiographische Aufzeichnungen des Rudolf Hoss. Herausgegeben von Martin Broszat." (Autobiographic notes by Rudolf Hoess. Edited by Martin Broszat).

Are not the words "autobiography" and "memoir" the same?

Guys like Finkelstein have to be questioned for sincerity. On one hand he chastises the money making scammers of the 'holocau$t' Industry, but fails to logically examine the lack of evidence for the absurd 'holocau$t' story itself. He's utterly irrational in that regard.

I surmize that Finkelstein, and Jews generally, simply gain so much in political power, social deferrence, and privileges, that they cannot wean themselves from their main source of domination and claims of superiority. They may argue about exploitation, but insist on keeping the mythology intact.

Scott is correct, Death Dealer : the memoirs of the SS Kommandant at Auschwitz / by Rudolf Höss ; edited by Steven Paskuly.

That work has been demolished here:

If it can't happen as alleged, then it didn't.

The Martin Broszat version is interesting because Broszat conveniently leaves out all Höß' frank discussions of homosexuals in the penal system. Pray tell that in the Sixties one would "share the Shoah" with those guys. How times change.

In my edition (Broszat) there is a long passage about a horny homosexual Rumanian prince with lots of pornographic tattoos (he would have made for interesting lamp shades). Höss discusses the homosexuals in the Sachsenshausen-part (also the prostitutes, Strichjungen), after the Jehova's Witnesses and before the rev. Niemöller.

Has this prince (a real "queen") who lived with his mother in Munich, been identified?

No, I don't know anything about the Romanian guy.

Maybe I am thinking of a different edition of the Höß autobiography. The earliest major editions by editors and translations are as follows:

Martin Broszat 1958, 1961, 1963, 1965, 1979, 1992, 1994 Ger
Constantine FitzGibbon 1959, 1960, 1961, 1974 Eng
Constantin de Grunwald 1959 Fre
Jan Sehn 1956, 1961, 1965 Pol
