Pictured on the cover on the magazine is American atrocity propagandist Wallace Ranking Deuel, who started off as a journalist, but in 1941 he started to work for US Intelligence: the COI, then OSS, and finally the CIA. Deuel was the CIA's representative to the White House during the Kennedy administration.

According to the Encyclopedia of the Central Intelligence Agency:

At one point, he worked with Walt Disney on a cartoon propaganda project.

So it's possible, even likely, Deuel was involved in the creation of Education for Death. Below's a video still from the 1943 cartoon:



To the point of this post.... Just two months after the release of Education for Death, on March 22, 1943 Deuel gave a lecture in Maryland, and he was paraphrased in the following day's edition of a local paper as having said:

The Nazis set out in the beginning to destroy whole peoples. They expected to obliterate from the earth not less than 6,000,000 Jews as a beginning.

That was quite a revealing reply to the OP. Wow. The idea that the 6 million was there before it supposedly happened isn't restricted to the New York Times.

Thanks, and no, far from it. Without wishing to derail the thread, here's another couple of unambiguous predictions that 6,000,000 will be the number (I've got several others in the same vein):

Well, you have a Ph.D., so I assume you've done a literature search. I did one just now. Took all of five minutes.

So "Dalton" asked me to check the New York Times and find references to six million Jews vs. references to other sums of millions. He suggested a date range from 1900 to 1945. I thought it more wise to end my search on August 31, 1939 -- one day before World War II began.

These are standard Boolean searches and can be replicated on the ProQuest NYT Historic databse. Here are the results:

5 documents found for: ("6 million Jews") OR ("six million Jews") AND PDN(>1/1/1900) AND PDN(<8/31/1939) 220 documents found for: ("million Jews") OR ("millions of Jews") AND PDN(>1/1/1900) AND PDN(<8/31/1939) AND NOT ("six million Jews") AND NOT ("6 million Jews") Not to put too fine a point on it, this is five references in the Times to six million Jews before the war began vs. 220 references to other sums in the millions. I.e., there are over forty times as many references to other figures. I think I made my point. Please publish this to the Web site. Roberto, you may do the same. -Andrew

I think Mathis' point is well taken. If anyone bothers to look at even the most Jewish-oriented newspaper, you find more references to other population measurements than to six million. That's why I see this gambit as particularly fruitless.
