Aggressive Soviets violated numerous treaties with neighboring countries

Postby Lamprecht » 4 years 1 month ago (Thu May 02, 2019 12:26 pm)

Often when discussing the situation of WWII, it is claimed that the declaration of war on Hitler by the British and French was justified because he was untrustworthy, violating treaty after treaty. For example, some will point to the Munich Agreement claiming Hitler said he would have no further territorial demands after the Sudetenland. Some go so far as to say he could not have been trusted to not invade Britain eventually, and thus there was no reason for Churchill to accept his peace proposals. After all, Hitler attacked the USSR despite having a treaty (more on that being a preventative attack below).

Of course this is based on the "Hitler wanted to take over all of Europe/the World" theory, and that Britain saw this and needed to stop it. The truth however is that the USSR most evidently wanted to take over Europe (and the world) which we can actually see via their behavior both before, during, and after the war.

The USSR violated various treaties with their neighbors, including Poland, but the "Allies" did not declare war as a response.

- On 17 September 1939, the Soviet–Polish Non-Aggression Pact signed on 25 July 1932 was violated when the USSR invaded Poland. Read more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet%E2 ... ssion_Pact

- On 28 November 1939 the Soviet Union renounced their Non-Aggression pact with Finland, and invaded two days later. The USSR claimed that Finland attacked a Soviet village, whereas Finland denied it. This false-flag attack committed by the Red Army is known as "Shelling of Mainila." According to Article 5 of the treaty, parties should have called for a joint commission to examine the incident, which Finland tried to call but the Soviet Union refused. - On 15 June 1940, the Soviet Union invaded Lithuania, violating the 28 September 1926 Non-Aggression pact. Also, the 10 October 1939 "Mutual Assistance" treaty between the USSR and Lithuania was a set-up for the eventual occupation of Lithuania and was described by The New York Times as a "virtual sacrifice of independence." The June Uprising strongly suggests this annexation went against the wishes of the Lithuanian people. According to the "Baltic Tribunal Against the Soviet Union" the USSR's signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact violated various treaties.

Description of Baltic World Conference: https://www.csce.gov/international-impa ... on?page=28 or https://archive.fo/Q3Zzm
The BWC accuses the Soviet Union, under international law, of the following crimes against humanity and against the States and Peoples of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania:

A. Conspiracy, aggression, and the illegal annexation of the Baltic States

1. On August 23, 1939, the Soviet Union, in collusion with Nazi Germany, signed a mutual non aggression treaty, known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact with secret protocols attached and supplemented on September 28, dividing Eastern Europe into spheres of influence. According to the terms of the pact, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bessarabia, and Northern Bukovina came under Soviet Russian domination. By this act of conspiracy, the Soviet Union violated Article 10 of the Covenant of the League of Nations and Article 1 of the Kellogg-Briand Pact, and it shares the responsibility with the German Reich in causing World War II

2. By implementing the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the Soviet Union, by useof military force, coerced the signing of the Mutual Assistance Treaties with Estonia on September 24, 1939; with Latvia on October 5, 1939; and with Lithuania on October 10, 1939. The Mutual Assistance Treaties provided for the garrisoning of Soviet troops in the respective neutral and sovereign Baltic republics and were instrumental in carrying out the military occupation of Lithuania on June 15, 1940; Estonia on June 16, 1940; and Latvia on June 17, 1940 (occupatio bellica).

These military acts were in direct violation of a number of international treaties which the Soviet Union had signed with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in 1920, 1926, 1929, 1932, 1934, and 1939. They were also a willful violation of the Convention for the Definition of Aggression of July 5, 1933.

The following summary is posted on Wikipedia, but Google Books only has a limited preview of the cited book:
The forcible annexation of the Baltic states was an illegal act under both customary and conventional international law.[27] Under customary law the annexation violated the basic principles such as state sovereignty and independence, the prohibition against violent seizure of territory and the prohibition against intervention. In conventional law the actions of the Soviet Union violated practically every provision of every major convention between the Soviet Union and the respective Baltic states.[27] The Secret Protocols with Germany were a violation of Article 2 of the Estonian and Latvian Non-Aggression treaties. The threat to use force and the ultimatum to conclude the Treaties of Mutual Assistance violated the spirit and letter of the respective Peace Treaties, the Non-Aggression Treaties, the Conciliation Conventions, the Kellogg–Briand Pact and the Protocol for the Renunciation of War. The Soviet action in the military occupation, forcible intervention and annexation constituted an act of aggression within the meaning of Article 2 of the Conventions for the Definition of Aggression of 1933, nor was there any justification according to Article 3 and the Annex of that same convention.[27]

Violated treaty with Iran:
IRAN TO PROTEST RUSS ‘VIOLATION’ OF TREATY

TEHRAN, March 3 (AP) —Dr. Mohamed Mossadegh, unofficial parliamentary whip, declared today that Iran would protest “Russian violation of the Tripartite Treaty” under which the United States, Britain and Russia agreed to withdraw from Iran by March 2.

He voiced belief in a speech to his fellow deputies that the Russians want to stay in Iran “for good” and said he had information that evacution of Red army troops had not yet begun in Semnam, Mezhed and Sharud. [Semnan, Mashad and Shahrud] The Russians said Friday evacuation of those Eastern areas would be under way by yesterday.

Demanding that the government notify the United Nations Security Council of “Soviet aggression,” Mossadegh added:

“The Russians have openly broken their word and abrogated the treaty made with the United States and Great Britain. The world will certainly agree that Iran did her best in the last World War to save the world from aggression—this despite the fact our only interest in the war was to help serve our two big neighbors.”

Our "Gallant Soviet ally" was expelled from League of Nations 14 December 1939 for its aggression and treaty violations:
THIS DAY IN HISTORY:
December 14
1939

USSR expelled from the League of Nations

On this day, the League of Nations, the international peacekeeping organization formed at the end of World War I, expels the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in response to the Soviets’ invasion of Finland on October 30...

The true imperial designs of the Soviet Union soon became apparent with its occupation of eastern Poland in September of 1939, ostensibly with the intention of protecting Russian “blood brothers,” Ukrainians and Byelorussians, who were supposedly menaced by the Poles. Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia were then terrorized into signing “mutual assistance” pacts, primarily one-sided agreements that gave the USSR air and naval bases in those countries. But the invasion of Finland, where no provocation or pact could credibly be adduced to justify the aggression, resulted in worldwide reaction. President Roosevelt, although an “ally” of the USSR, condemned the invasion, causing the Soviets to withdraw from the New York World’s Fair. And finally, the League of Nations, drawing almost its last breath, expelled it.
