Re: Shoe display at Auschwitz
Yes I had heard this. I think it was mentioned by someone some time ago when they discussed the 'Auschwitz is a theme park' idea. It is. This is pure emotional theatre. I would bet most people who see this pile of shoes are so emotional strangled by this time they cannot think straight and just assume this pile has thousand of pairs of shoes and all the previous owners were gassed minutes after taking them off.

Good find! Carlo Mattogno wrote about the Auschwitz shoes being held in place by a slanted wooden board, and I searched for quite a while for a photo showing this, but found nothing. Do you have a source for this?
To provide soap for Germany … [Prof. Spanner] used, in the mode of the Shakespearean witches, racially and ethnically diverse corpses in his experiments … This defies the popular perception that the soap was made of “pure Jewish fat.” … We may consider this misperception a curious symptom of a purist and essentialist reading, or, at least, note that the tension between essentialism and utilitarianism reaches its peak in this misreading.

That meme is one of mine. I found the image on google image search after going through dozens of pages of tourist photos. Here is the original photo.
I made it a while back and cannot remember the website. But the original photo is marked chasingtravel.com in the bottom left corner so that's probably where I found it.

Really? Great find. I was a bit worried this might be a fake.

Are there mirrors on the wall, to give the illusion there are more than there are?

Thanks! Unfortunately, the site seems to be gone now. I think the author has relocated to Instagram. But I found some additional photos on tripadvisor.com, though they’re not as good.

Also, there’s now a shoes movie. And a shoes book.

Interesting
Yandex will not show the edges of the display with all those photos

It's an illusionists trick whether being held up by board and increased in volume appearance by mirrors or if that was a real pile of old shoes. Because what is this supposed to prove anyway. The insinuation is that those were the shoes of people being gassed that were collected in the camp. But it isn't even sure if those were shoes of jews. Those may be just as plausible old-leader or old-clothing collections and the material would be recycled at the concentration camps. After all they had surplus labor there that needed to be 'kept busy' to justify the vast expenses the Germans had due to those people. So finding old shoes, old clothing or anything like that has zero probative value, not even for confiscation, let alone "extermination".
The brighter folks among the audience may notice that this is a trick (those that are inclined to admire the Fuehrer's new clothes for too long) and crack jokes about it. Perhaps speculating what elese may be going on at their local 'recycling plant'. And of course they will be rebuked for laughing by pious Holocaustians.... "How dare they laugh, when we commemorate the six million victims?!" ... Laughing about the Rabbis was a punishable crime in the Ghetto. So why allow the Goyim to laugh about martyrs / human sacrifices?
It's of course a trick to induce social controls on the audiences and create a climate where people are more inclined to being engulfed by emotion and 'start believing'. Other cults work exactly the same.

In the book of Carol Ann Lee : "Anne Frank : a biography" (1999), French translation "Anne Frank, les secrets d'une vie", p. 237, about Anne and Margot Frank at Bergen-Belsen : "on les avait affectées au hangar à chaussures, d'anciennes granges où s'entassaient de vieux souliers venus de toute l'Allemagne. Elles devaient (...) mettre de côté les pièces réutilisables."
I translate the translation : "They were posted to the shed with the shoes, former barns where old shoes from whole Germany piled up. Their task was (...) to put aside the pieces that could be utilized again."

A couple of comments on shoes...
There was a NYT article in which it was claimed that the Russians found records kept by the Germans of 15 million (or was it 16m) shoes that were collected and shipped out of Auschwitz. Thats like 8 pairs of shoes for every gassing victim.
Years ago I watched a presentation by an author on the Jewish history of shoemaking. She was calling it 'Jews And Thier Shoes' or something very similar. And she talked of the pride Jews took in their shoemaking and in their tailoring. They always had the best shoes. Yet each and every pile of holocaust shoes looks like trash dug out of the ground.

Which indicates that those are old shoes brought in for recycling. Recycling was very prominent in NS-Germany. The camps had lots of idle prisoners who did cost a lot of resources to be sustained. So rather let them do something useful, while they are there.
But if you don't have hard evidence for an assertion of extermination, innuendo is the way to go. And that can achieved quite powerfully by displaying piles of shoes or clothing and then claim that this all belonged to gassing victims once. And well, it seems to work on hordes of dimwits. Confront them and ask them, if they really have been shown evidence for what is asserted. Most will actually notice their folly, but also respond to jump to rescue devices, that the narrative is still somehow true. What people don't grasp is that they might be lied to that viciously. They can't imagine people would lie about something like this and that even the smart and clever folks in politics, media, academia would actually fall for this. Well, they did. It's the 'Fuehrer's New Clothes' they admire.

Shoes with the soles removed can even be spotted in the piles as if rubber was possibly being recovered. And I like the new version of the story for the enormous pile of shoes at Majdanek, which is that they were shipped there from Treblinka.

So it wouldn't even be a 'new version'. Just something the evidence leads to.
Being a shoe processing center wouldn't disprove 'extermination' of course. But it is a plausible explanation why there would be shoes. And that a pile of shoes isn't 'proof for extermination'. That's sufficient evidence to dismiss the repetitively asserted charges.
