A Holo-Question!

Postby Scott » 2 decades 4 months ago (Sat Feb 01, 2003 3:22 am)

Surely the folks at the Air-Photo forum can help me out. I quoted the distance from the Treblinka II Death Camp to the Treblinka I Labor Camp as 1.3 kilometers from an authoritative source which I've misplaced. Usually the distance given is about a mile (1.6 km) or less apart.

Therefore, I said the distance was 1.3 km, or a little less (0.81 miles) than 1 mile (1.6 km).

A poster from a different forum claims the distance is 3 kilometers (1.88 miles).

My latest measurements using the September, 1944 aerial photo, and camp dimensions from the maps at http://www.deathcamps.org/treblinka/maps.html to determine the scale, yield the following calculations:

1) TI gate to nearest TII corner via road is 1.38 kilometers (0.86 miles).

2) TI gate to TII off-loading dock is about 1.4 km (0.88 miles).

3) TI gate to TII Kurt Seidel/Zoo St. intersection is 1.73 km (1.08 miles).

4) TI center to TII center (straight line) approximately 1.8 km (or 1.13 miles).

5) TI gate to TII perimeter "as the crow flies" is 1.23 km (0.77 miles).

Would you agree that the TII Death Camp is under a mile distant by road or rail to the TI Labor Camp (and even closer to the gravel quarry) or not?

Any thoughts?
:)

Scott:

I walked on "Black Road", the road between T II and T I a couple of years ago. I also know that I have a photo of the sign somewhere, but I don't remember if the sign tells the distance.

What I recall is that the distance is more then a mile (1,6 km)!

I'll come back when I find the photo.

Pages below say it's about 1 km (0.6 miles) between the camps. (It felt longer when I walked this road :? )

Mattogno/Graf wrote in “Treblinka”, that the distance between those two camps TI and TII is about 2 km or 1.25 miles.

If I tell you what I was thinking when I walked the road, the Moderator would pull my post!

Let me say one thing, if you got the money and time, book a flight to Poland and see for your self. Sorry to say, but most of the time you will laugh! When the stories are told to you, it will insult your intelligence if you can add 1 + 1.

I'll come back when I got the photo with sign of "Black Road".

I don't really understand why the Moderator would pull the post--now that you have my curiosity piqued--but I'll take your word for it.

Actually that is one thing that I would like to see. Am I weird or what?

I'll come back when I got the photo with sign of "Black Road".

Thanks!

Scott,

I found the picture on the net. This sign stands across the entrance to alleged death camp TII.

Thanks. I wonder why so many different sources seem to have different versions of the distance.
