Israel taps US phones / demands & gets all raw data from NSA

Postby Hannover » 1 decade 1 day ago (Thu Jun 06, 2013 7:09 pm)

Millions of Americans have been spied upon by secretive contractors with extensive ties to Israeli intelligence for the US National Security Agency (NSA). While this story has gotten media coverage, rarely is the Israeli connection mentioned in the media reports. Why?

Who would even dare to think that the violent, "shitty little country" of Israel would mine this type of information for themselves? No chance, right?

One also has to ask why secretive contractors with extensive ties to Israeli intelligence were hired in the first place.

Jame Bamford of Wired reported that these secretive Israeli contractors are establishing 10 to 20 wiretapping rooms at key telecommunication points throughout the country.

In this text they are making the connection somewhat clearer:

A little known footnote to the brewing PRISM scandal, in which the NSA has for years harvested Americans’ personal data via eight of the largest social media and technology companies in the world, involves special technology developed by two Israeli companies founded by veterans of the IDF’s cyber-warfare Unit 8200:

If America’s tech giants didn’t ‘participate knowingly’ in the dragnet of electronic communication, how does the NSA get all of their data?

One theory: the NSA hired two secretive Israeli companies to wiretap the U.S. telecommunications network.

Verint and Narus created programs which offered the NSA backdoors to all the major U.S. telecommuications and technology companies including Facebook, Microsoft, Google. That’s how the companies could deny that they explicitly knew or approved of PRISM’s harvesting their data:

Both Verint and Narus were founded in Israel in the 1990s. Both provide monitoring and intercept capabilities to service providers and government organizations, promoting claims that their equipment can access and retain large amounts of information on a vast number of targets.

From Robert Poe of Wired:

Narus’ product, the Semantic Traffic Analyzer, is a software application that runs on standard IBM or Dell servers using the Linux operating system. It’s renowned within certain circles for its ability to inspect traffic in real time on high-bandwidth pipes, identifying packets of interest as they race by at up to 10 Gbps.

“Anything that comes through (an internet protocol network), we can record,” Steve Bannerman, marketing vice president of Narus, a Mountain View, California company, said. “We can reconstruct all of their e-mails along with attachments, see what web pages they clicked on, we can reconstruct their (voice over internet protocol) calls.”

With a telecom wiretap the NSA only needs companies like Microsoft, Google, and Apple to passively participate while the agency to intercepts, stores, and analyzes their communication data. The indirect nature of the agreement would provide tech giants with plausible deniability.

And having a foreign contractor bug the telecom grid would mean that the NSA gained access to most of the domestic traffic flowing through the U.S. without technically doing it themselves.

This would provide the NSA, whose official mission is to spy on foreign communications, with plausible deniability regarding domestic snooping.

Thus, the arrangement is nifty for all those involved…except for those Americans who are victims of this intelligence shell game.

Let’s now get to Unit 8200 and its role: this IDF entity is responsible for Israel’s cyber-warfare capability. It developed Stuxnet and Flame along with its colleagues in the NSA, who also shared “credit.” Unit 8200 veterans have founded numerous start-ups that commercialize their military applications for security use by companies, intelligence agencies, and entire nations:

In 2007 a former commander of the highly secret Unit 8200 (i.e. Israel’s NSA) told Forbes that the technology of Comverse (i.e. the company that owns Verint) is based on Unit 8200 technology.

One of the founders of Verint, Jacob “Kobi” Alexander, is a former Israeli intelligence officer. [ed., this portrait of Alexander's alleged bank and stock fraud, which led him to seek refuge in Namibia, is instructive]

A co-founder and former chairmen [sic] of Narus, Ori Cohen, told Fortune in 2001 that his partners have done technology work for Israeli intelligence.

In 2011 another former chief of Unit 8200 acknowledged to the Israeli paper Haartez that high-tech firms around the world employ both Unit 8200 equipment and its veteran personnel.

From Bamford Wired (emphasis ours):

“Cautious estimates indicate that in the past few years… Unit 8200 veterans have set up some 30 to 40 high-tech companies, including 5 to 10 that were floated on Wall Street.” Referred to only as “Brigadier General B,” he added, “This correlation between serving in the intelligence Unit 8200 and starting successful high-tech companies is not coincidental: Many of the technologies in use around the world and developed in Israel were originally military technologies and were developed and improved by Unit veterans.”

Unfortunately, when it comes to riding roughshod over the rights of citizens, when it comes to developing and maintaining the national security state, it seems the IDF and its veterans are right in the thick of it. If the NSA ever needed any lessons taught, it had only to turn to Israeli cyber-warriors who’ve been given carte blanche in the war on terror to do whatever it takes to fight the “enemy,” whoever that may be.

The IDF has brought us targeted killings via drone and many other methods. Another Unit 8200 veteran created the financial services company Payoneer, whose bank-card product was used by the Mossad Dubai assassins who murdered Mahmoud al-Mabouh.

Now they bring us the means to spy on our own citizens without leaving any fingerprints. How convenient both for the NSA and companies involved. They don’t do anything, at least not actively. They are merely passive receptors for the dirty work done for them by our Israeli friends at Narus and Verint.

To which I say: if you want a society like Israel’s obsessed with national security and willing to pay any price for it, then don’t object to PRISM or the wholesale harvesting of virtually everything personal you might have (except your thoughts, which they haven’t figured out how to harvest yet). If this is not your vision of what society should be, then yell your head off.

Obama and who else?

Snowden said that if he had an email (and thus presumably an IP address) he could spy on anyone and see all sorts of private stuff. Ie twitter, youtube comments, yahoo mail? That means that within those organizations a lot of people have access to PRISM. Some of those people likely have a Pro-Israel, pro-Jewish interest outside of their job and they might snoop on us. Likely they have.

But what they might then do with the information, might cause them some sleepless nights. Share the info? They could go to jail for that. What if they shared the info with a double agent? The Mossad had one of their agents (an Australian Jew) screw-up and expose an Arab informant, a scene which happened a year or so ago.

If they actually tried to do something to us, that's incredibly risky on their part.

We are grateful for Snowden that's for sure.

It's odd because when I hear about US senators condemning Snowden I can't help notice the "Jews equal 50% of the population" type thing. IE there's John McCain and then Jewish congressman Schumer. Or there's some Republican non-jew condemning Snowden, and then there's Jewish senator Diane Feinstein also. In other words it seems like a Jewish congressman condemning Snowden is around half of the condemnations one hears about in the news..

The NSA and its Israeli contractors (Narus and Verint) are far worse than the Stasi or the Gestapo ever were:

http://www.businessinsider.com/stasi-talks-about-nsa-surveillance-state-2013-6

To imagine that the Israelis might not have the same access to the NSA data that countless American "contractors" had seems to be the height of silliness. Who would dare to speak in the US congress against Israeli sharing in this intelligence? No one! The days of Caspar Weinberger are long gone. If Mitt Romney had won the last election he would have put the Israelis in control of the NSA to prevent any space at all from appearing between the US and Israel.

According to James Bamford in the linked video, two Israeli contractors (Narus and Verint) have been hired to do the actual wiretapping for major American companies like Verizon and AT&T:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd19U_1a9V8

I have no doubt that Big Brother is an Israeli with a US passport! Why should that be a problem--or a surprise? So all right already, what's wrong with sharing? The cattle are far too stupid to even notice--or care. It must be God's will.

Hey, you want to see Big Brother--and with such a smile? Here he is "powering actionable intelligence:" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rlsi9pMDQO4 So, what's not to like already?

There is lots of info on the internet about these two Israeli spy organizations, NARUS and VERINT, that spy on all of us 24/7 (do your own Google search)--but, and this is the really interesting part, none of that info ever seems to make it through the major news media.--or into public congressional hearings. WOW!!

Could I or anyone make an FOIA request for any files NARUS or VERINT has on me or us? What do you think my chances are of getting an answer?

Just look at what Wikepedia tells us about NARUS and how it works. It was an Israeli company founded by Israelis but now is totally owned by Boeing. Perfecto!
NarusInsight
System specification and capabilities

Some features of NarusInsight include:[10]

Scalability to support surveillance of large, complex IP networks (such as the Internet).
High-speed packet processing performance, which enables it to sift through the vast quantities of information that travel over the Internet.
Normalization, Correlation, Aggregation and Analysis provide a model of user, element, protocol, application and network behaviors, in real-time. That is it can track individual users, monitor which applications they are using (e.g., web browsers, instant messaging applications, e-mail) and what they are doing with those applications (e.g., which web sites they have visited, what they have written in their emails/IM conversations), and see how users' activities are connected to each other (e.g., compiling lists of people who visit a certain type of web site or use certain words or phrases in their e-mail messages.
High reliability from data collection to data processing and analysis.
NarusInsight's functionality can be configured to feed a particular activity or IP service such as security lawful intercept or even Skype detection and blocking.
Compliance with CALEA and ETSI.
Certified by Telecommunication Engineering Center (TEC) in India for lawful intercept and monitoring systems for ISPs.

The intercepted data flows into NarusInsight Intercept Suite. This data is stored and analyzed for surveillance and forensic analysis purposes.

Other capabilities include playback of streaming media (i.e., VoIP), rendering of web pages, examination of e-mail and the ability to analyze the payload/attachments of e-mail or file transfer protocols. Narus partner products, such as Pen-Link, offer the ability to quickly analyze information collected by the Directed Analysis or Lawful Intercept modules.

A single NarusInsight machine can monitor traffic equal to the maximum capacity (10 Gbit/s) of around 39,000 256k DSL lines or 195,000 56k telephone modems. But, in practical terms, since individual internet connections are not continually filled to capacity, the 10 Gbit/s capacity of one NarusInsight installation enables it to monitor the combined traffic of several million broadband users.

According to a year 2007 company press release, the latest version of NarusInsight Intercept Suite (NIS) is "the industry's only network traffic intelligence system that supports real-time precision targeting, capturing and reconstruction of webmail traffic... including Google Gmail, MSN Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail".[11] However, currently most webmail traffic can be HTTPS encrypted, so the content of messages can only be monitored with the consent of service providers.

It can also perform semantic analysis of the same traffic as it is happening, in other words analyze the content, meaning, structure and significance of traffic in real time. The exact use of this data is not fully documented, as the public is not authorized to see what types of activities and ideas are being monitored.

Can anyone seriously believe they are NOT sharing their info with Mossad and/or the Israeli government? Unfortunately, all of this info may discourage people from being active revisionists--but we have to resist, and tell the truth anyway--unless we want to be their slaves.

To see just how thoroughly corrupt our media is, look at the following news story from the Huffington Post about Narus and possible spying for the US Defense Dept. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/2 ... 67925.html There is absolutely no mention of Israel or any possible Israeli connection. Amazing! The cattle really are far too stupid!

And now, any and all data which Israelis don't collect directly for racist Israel is handed over to Israel directly by the NSA itself, see:

Revealing article here goes into the fact that the US government is giving Israel all raw surveillance data that the US government collects on Americans. Not filtered, not vetted, nothing, handed over straight away.
http://original.antiwar.com/giraldi/201 ... to-no-one/
A Government Answerable to No One
excerpts:
The Edward Snowden March 2009 memo which reveals that the National Security Agency (NSA) is illegally spying on American citizens and then passing the raw information it obtains on to Israel is particularly shocking because it demonstrates with documentary evidence just how Washington’s inside the beltway crowd places its relationship with Israel above its responsibility to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States. But equally interesting is the tale of the dog that did not bark in the night. The crowds of angry Americans concerned about their loss of privacy gathering in front of the White House failed to materialize because the story, unreported in most of the media, quickly disappeared down the memory hole. The Washington Post placed it on a back page while The New York Times did not report it at all, Managing Editor Dean Baquet calling it a story that was neither "significant" nor "surprising" as determined by his "news judgment." The Times own Public Editor Margaret Sullivan disagreed, however, as did most of the readers’ comments on the failure to include it in the paper. Some commenters noted that the Times is frequently inclined to avoid stories that are critical of Israel.

... the Jonathan Pollard and Ben-Ami Kadish espionage cases, the Lavon Affair, and the attack on the USS Liberty all suggest that Israel will not hesitate to harm the United States and even kill American citizens if it thinks it will gain something by so doing.

... US intelligence community assessment dated September 2007 also reported by the Guardian notes how the NSA-Israel relationship has "become overwhelmingly one sided in favor of Israel…‘tilted heavily in favor of Israeli security concerns…driven almost totally by the needs of the partner.’" An NSA report one year later notes dyspeptically how Israel targets "us to learn our positions on Middle East problems…a National Intelligence Estimate ranked them as the third most aggressive intelligence service against the US"

As soon as the subject turns to Israel they become very shy, apparently, but these are all symptoms of a government that has pari passu become only answerable to itself, particularly when the media is uninterested in a story that it finds embarrassing. It is not what the Founders of the United States envisioned and it hardly benefits the American people, but it is what we have. Unfortunately.
Why should anyone accept anything that the lying Israelis say. Their record of deceit is obvious. That's right, the 'holocaust' storyline is on top of the long list of their deceitful lies.

Americans, take back your country.

Oops, Feinstein let's the cat out of the bag, by mere accident or with typical Jewish clumsiness.

-haldan

It's widely known that the NSA has taps connected to the various telco networks, thanks in large part to AT&T employee Mark Klein who blew the whistle on AT&T's secret NSA room in San Francisco. What was unclear was exactly what kind of access the NSA had. Various groups like the EFF and CDT have both been asking the administration to finally come clean, in the name of transparency, if they're tapping backbone networks to snarf up internet communications like email. So far, the administration has declined to elaborate. Back in August, when the FISA court declassified its ruling about NSA violations, the third footnote, though heavily redacted, did briefly discuss this "upstream" capability:

In short, "upstream" capabilities are tapping the backbone itself, via the willing assistance of the telcos (who still have remained mostly silent on all of this) as opposed to "downstream" collection, which requires going to the internet companies directly. The internet companies have been much more resistant to government attempts to get access to their accounts. And thus, it's a big question as to what exactly the NSA can collect via its taps on the internet backbone, and the NSA and its defenders have tried to remain silent on this point, as you can see from the redactions above.

However, as Kevin Bankston notes, during Thursday's Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, Dianne Feinstein more or less admitted that they get emails via "upstream" collection methods. As you can see in the following clip, Feinstein interrupts a discussion to read a prepared "rebuttal" to a point being made, and in doing so clearly says that the NSA can get emails via upstream collections:
Dianne Feinstein wrote:Upstream collection... occurs when NSA obtains internet communications, such as e-mails, from certain US companies that operate the Internet background, i.e., the companies that own and operate the domestic telecommunications lines over which internet traffic flows.

She clearly means "backbone" rather than "background." She's discussing this in an attempt to defend the NSA's "accidental" collection of information it shouldn't have had. But that point is not that important. Instead, the important point is that she's now admitted what most people suspected, but which the administration has totally avoided admitting for many, many years since the revelations made by Mark Klein.

So, despite years of trying to deny that the NSA can collect email and other communications directly from the backbone (rather than from the internet companies themselves), Feinstein appears to have finally let the cat out of the bag, perhaps without realizing it.
