Camp vernet and/or the rail line from Pau to Canfranc
Canfranc was built as an international rail link between Pau and Spain, it had substantial dula gauge exchange lines, does anyine have any references to it being used as a deportation route for Jews and likewise was the nearby Camp Vernet in the Riege used for that purpose as a staging post whether or not the route was via Canfranc or the coast.
Re: Camp vernet and/or the rail line from Pau to Canfranc
The Le Vernet camp in France was first used for republican refugees returning from the Spanish civil war in the 1930s. During Vichy, it was used for various foreign prisoners, some of them Jewish, some of whom were deported to Germany rather than Spain. There is a considerable literature on "the deportees" in France, with legal restrictions on what can be said. Many of them, like Simone Weil and Paul Rassinier, later returned to France, though many didn't.
Earlier, some Jews travelled by the railway from France to Spain, though this was emigration rather than deportation by the French authorities.
There is probably some local literature on the history of the camp and railway, but I don't have ready access to it.
