Using Google Ngram viewer / censorship

Postby Charles Ramsey » 5 years 1 month ago (Sun Apr 29, 2018 7:16 pm)

Google Ngram is a word counter program that uses the Google database as a source. It gives the frequency of a word in each year. The tool is case sensitive. Enter the word holocaust and Holocaust and you can see an attempt to change the meaning of the word around 1960. The word Holodomor is also informative. It is 1000 times rarer than the word Holocaust. If you search for a word save the web page. We will see how long it takes Google to censor words or books to skew the results. Word counters are useful tools. If you want to teach a child to spell you start with the most common word in the language then move down the list. Same thing with vocabulary. Words that are not in the top 10000 have no business in public schools.
