List of Stalin's victims released

Postby Sannhet » 1 decade 9 years ago (Wed Mar 24, 2004 7:32 pm)

excerpts from article:
Stalinist Purge Victims' Names Released

MOSCOW - Russia's leading human rights groups released a list Wednesday of more than a million of people who fell victim to Josef Stalin's purges — an attempt to draw public attention to the Soviet dictator's crimes in a society still divided over his legacy.

The 1,345,796 names, compiled on a CD-ROM along with brief biographies of the victims, represent only a small portion of those who suffered in the purges, but are all the cases that activists have been able to document so far.

...

A recent poll conducted by the independent ROMIR agency found 45 percent of respondents saying that Stalin played a largely positive role in Russia's history. Also, Stalin was named the second most successful Russian leader since the 1917 Bolshevik revolution, ceding first place only to President Vladimir Putin

Where is the list of those killed in the Jewish Holocaust? Are there far too few names to release, and so to release them would cause the entire story to crumble?

With regard to the last paragraph: If a similiar poll was taken in Germany and 45 percent said that Hitler played a positive role in German history, can you imagine the reaction? Can you imagine the furor (no pun intended) in the world community? And what makes no sense is that despite a very active "Holocaust industry", no list of the 6 million has ever been put to paper (or CD-Rom in this case). Meanwhile Human Rights groups in Russia are publishing the names and telling the stories of millions of victims of Stalinist terror, despite having far fewer resources at their disposal.

Ah, but, was Stalin not on the winning side?

Good point. I forgot that there was never a single war crime or atrocity commited by Stalin or the Red Army! Because if they had commited war crimes or crimes against humanity, they surely would have been tried and found guilty at that paradigm of justice, Nuremburg!

If I remember correctly, there was a poll in West Germany in the 1970's where 25% said that the Third Reich was better to live in than in the BRD. I don't know the age of the respondents, but I guess that the ones who had acutally lived in the Third Reich were more postitive about that period than the ones born during or after the war. If you are grown up with the post-war hate propaganda you are not likely to think positive about the Hitler era.
