Cheaper alternative is the 1983 papermac editions.

Also having two different volumes. Just paperback format.

I'm interested to know why you recommend having both the modern 2019 edition and also the older one. You say the new 2019 is abridged? Interesting. Would you mind going into detail about what is left out? Do you know possibly why things were excised? Possibly David Irving himself commented on why?

The 2019 edition contains 3 books, The War Path and Hitler's War vols 1-2. The book only just comes out to over 1000 pages, the prior edition had less than 1000 pages. If you were to own a single volume edition from 1977 that contained both volumes of Hitler's War without The War Path, that book easily goes beyond 1000 pages.

Irving doesn't mention that the book is abridged in the newest edition, but if you were to own a copy of the 1991 edition, it does say so:

As for what's left out, that's for you to discover. Hence why I recommend you own both editions (plus Irvings new introduction is pretty good). I've noticed a few things, one of importance regarding Barbarossa and a few things cut out of his chapter on the invasion of Poland. I don't have a full list of everything that's been exorcised, nor do I know why Irving cut things out. He hasn't commented on it. I can only imagine it's because if he were to have published all 3 books unabridged, it would run to over 1400 pages, if not more. If you read the 2013 re-issue of The War Path, Irving mentions that 'if time permits' a 3 volume edition of Hitler's War might be released. I imagine if that edition were ever to come to fruition (doubtful) that it'd be unabridged.

So if I have 2019 Hitler's War
https://irvingbooks.com/xcart/product.p ... ctid=18101

then I don't need this?

Or rather, is this War Path in 2019 Hitler's War also abridged on its own accord? It must be if you also told me this:
get his single volume edition of 'The War Path'.

So here is what I should get:

1. Hitler's War 2019 as linked above.
2. The War Path as linked above.
3. Hitler's War vol 1 1983.
4. Hitler's War vol 2 1983.

I don't know if The War Path has been abridged in the 2019 edition, but it wouldn't surprise me. So to be safe I would also have the single volume edition on hand. It's ultimately up to you.

Yes, that's what I've done and would recommend anyone else do. But if you don't think you need to, then don't.

Archie wrote:That argument in the video about Hitler kicking someone out of the party for ransacking a Jewish deli without his party badge is pretty ridiculous.

Hitler said: "By doing this [removing the badge] you admitted that you did not belong to the party at the moment when you committed the act."

It's seems pretty clear that the guy was hoping that not having the badge on would immunize him from party discipline. I interpret Hitler's remark as him telling the guy that the act of removing the badge was effectively an act of resignation from the party. The alternative interpretation, that Hitler encouraged his guys to ransack shops with their party badges proudly displayed, is absurd unless there is some evidence that Hitler regularly encouraged this.

That's indeed what it is. There were disciplinary actions taken against party members in connection with the attacks against Jews. So this was considered to be illegal or immoral by the party itself. Of course opinions on this within the party may have differed at the time.

Is there a Hitler order on "doing the crystal night"? No. In fact it's highly unlikely that the riots were organised or approved by top party officials, given that at the relevant dates the 'old fighters' were having commemorative meetings and reunions. So the choice of date is rather bad.

The riots were damaging to the image of Germany and specifically National Socialism of course. The NSDAP didn't win anything by them. The winners of the events and reporting about them were clearly the Germanophobes as well as anyone opposed to National Socialism with international Jewish organisations winning the gold medal. I think that was also realised by the NS-leadership afterwards, but as far as the events were concerned they didn't do good damage control neither.

One may however ask how the more rabid Anti-Semites were treated afterwards, e.g. Julius Streicher and the Ludendorff group.
