BBCode Demonstration

Postby Webmaster » 1 decade 1 month ago (Thu Apr 25, 2013 2:36 pm)

I noticed that some forum registrants were having difficulties with the BBCode, in particular the one for YouTube, so I have put together a brief "BBCode Demonstration" below. I excluded the obvious ones and only kept focus on those which I noticed registrants had issues with.

YouTube BBCode:

Code: Select all

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q5vozYhZnU[/youtube]

Yields:

You can also do:

Code: Select all

[ytpp]4q5vozYhZnU[/ytpp]

(copy the ID of the YouTube video - usually located in the URL)

It yields:
YouTube

URL / Link BBCode:

Code: Select all

[url=http://www.codoh.com]Committee for Open Debate on the Holocaust[/url]

Yields:
Committee for Open Debate on the Holocaust

E-Mail BBCode:

Code: Select all

[mailto][email protected][/mailto]

Yields:
[email protected]

Vimeo BBCode:

Code: Select all

[pvimeo=http://vimeo.com/58765072]58765072[/pvimeo]

(NOTE: You enter the full URL first, then in the next parameter you enter the video ID - always extracted from the URL)

Yields:

Full URL: http://vimeo.com/58765072

Rutube BBCode:

Code: Select all

[rutube]c8637a864e546b8c3893f22eb2e318e7[/rutube]

Yields:

NOTE: you extract this ID from the URL, like this:

Code: Select all

http://rutube.ru/video/c8637a864e546b8c3893f22eb2e318e7/

I hope this is helpful for those having issues with getting the syntax right.

YouTube BBCode update:

The old BBCode has now been revised and will display any YouTube link properly, i.e:

YouTube with HTTPS (and the www part):

Code: Select all

[youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7FVO-ga_3c[/youtube]

YouTube with YT's own short URL domain:

Code: Select all

[youtube]http://youtu.be/c5jsiLWXGYQ[/youtube]

It even works with the "related" part in the URL, and URLs that look like this:

Code: Select all

[youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBJ8S43w8CA&lc=55W6GETjGi_zcq7FGebQwLU82SzpP3ukTBAjU541YdI&feature=em-comment_reply_received&lch=email_reply[/youtube]

From this thread:
Jerzy Ulicki-Rek @ Auschwitz Kinderlager Liberation

I hope this BBCode should be more reliable in the future.

Added Highlight BBCode, useful if you would like to highlight any paragraph of text.

Example from the thread Cyanide Chemistry at Auschwitz:

astro3 wrote:Iron-bonded cyanide in the walls appears as being the best memory which the human race now has concerning where cyanide gas was or was not once used at Auschwitz, whether lethally or not. It may be the essential guide to the achieving of a collective agreement upon the Big Question. The response of just putting the chemist in jail cannot be adequate. One needs a re-analysis that measures both CN- bonded to iron (Leuchter, Rudolf and Ball [18]) and that not so bonded (Marciewicz et al), as well as, preferably, both ferrous and ferric iron and the Ph level (acid-alkali) of the samples. Whether or not the Prussian blue colouration appears in walls may not have a very central significance. The Polish survey only took one or two gram samples: let’s be clear that modern microanalytical techniques are not invasive and are hardly going to damage any property. A replication should focus upon the two morgues (i.e., alleged gas chambers) and the disinfestations chambers of Kremas I and II to compare with the earlier data.

Usage:

Code: Select all

[hilite]The text to be highlighted goes here.[/hilite]

I am still unsure about the colour. Any objections?

Added these awhile back. Useful if you want to include a list of notes / footnotes / references at the end of your post.

Usage:

Code: Select all

[spacer][/spacer]

Results in:

Notes:

1. Your footnote goes here.
2. Another footnote goes here.
3. Yet one more footnote here.

Alternatively there is one more divider.

Usage:

Code: Select all

[hr][/hr]

Results in:

Notes:

1. Your footnote goes here.
2. Another footnote goes here.
3. Yet one more footnote here.

I might have to do some padding to get it lined up in a better position, will look into that.
