Can anyone debunk the idea that the Germans only cared about blonde haired blue eyed people? It's ridiculous considering none of the Nazis themselves had any of those features.

You’ve already debunked it yourself - Hitler had brown hair. I always thought it was ridiculous myself. National Socialism aimed to promote White Nationalism in Germany. Please don’t call them Nazis, as it is a slur created by the allies.

There were plenty of examples that National Socialists did fit that bill as it is generally the case with Germans.
But the "we want only blonde, blue-eyed Germans" is false and a myth.

Although those features are associated with Nordids (among others) and there were intentions to increase the percentage of those within the German population. That was however more an issue of promotion and not a rigid policy.

So lots of this is post-war-hype and by that also a way to make people with those features suspect.

Just like William L. Shirer's alleged overhearing of Hitler enunciating his desire to found a "thousand year Reich", this "blonde hair & blue eyes" image is very much a survivor of the shallow "robot nazi" agitprop, without any evidence in Party program, speeches, or documents.

Personally I've rarely seen actual NSDAP, SS, Wehrmacht recruitment posters exhibiting blondism. Most of them were children or young adolescents (an appeal for Hitlerjugend membership, for example), i.e. the exact age group to display blondism in European populations regardless of 'race'.

Apart from Allied propaganda, presumably this longstanding meme has resulted from a conflation of early 20th century racialist theories about Atlandid, Nordid, Alpine, et. al., phenotypes. These did indeed have great interest in hair & eye colour. They also pre-date National Socialist times... but are often mixed up with NSDAP doctrine because post-1945 all concepts of eugenics is considered Nazi & inherently evil. Never mind that much of eugenic crackpot theorism began with America, not Germany. Might even be a way to shift blame a little.

There were movies about this. Pretty stupid ones. But the more stupid an allegation is, the more power it seems to have.

It is of course true that Nordicists promoted the dolichocephalic blonde kind of phenotype. And those were also put up on NS-Posters. But Marketing is not policy. The dolichocephalic blonde was also in other literature present.
