His name was Arthur Pillans Laurie. A chemist by profession whose expertise lay in examining old paintings by famous artists such as Rembrandt to determine if they were genuine. He pioneered the use of infrared photography in this regard.

He visited Germany in the 1930s to see what the fuss was about the new government. He was impressed and became a supporter of Adolf Hitler and national socialism. This culminated in his writing of a book which he called A Case for Germany.
