The Monuments Men - Birds of a Feather

Postby Mortimer » 8 years 3 months ago (Thu Feb 26, 2015 3:18 pm)

The Monuments Men is a 2014 film directed by and starring George Clooney. It shows how the title characters tracked down stolen works of art and other valuables taken by the enemy during world war 2. But what it didn't show was that the Americans themselves engaged in large scale looting of art works and other treasures - http://barnesreview.org/pdf/TBR_2014_no6_6-11.pdf

The Americans and other Allied nations not only took art works but also helped themselves to German patents which in the long run were worth a lot more money -

In the "Holocaust"/Debate/Comments/News forum there was a thread about how the German government investigated 1500 works of art that were alleged to be looted and found that the total number which actually were came to only 5. I have added a link to this as it is relevant to this thread - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10328
