Famous Einsatzgruppen photograph
http://collections.ushmm.org/search/catalog/pa5355
USHMM title "German soldiers of the Waffen-SS and the Reich Labor Service look on as a member of an Einsatzgruppe prepares to shoot a Ukrainian Jew kneeling on the edge of a mass grave filled with corpses. "
Anyone Know the origin of this photograph? The most detail I have read is that it is it is taken in 1942, or 1941-43? in Vinnitsa, Ukraine. Elsewhere I have read that it was apart of an album, but what other photographs are in that album? Also other sources claim the back of the photograph is inscribed "The last Jew in Vinnitsa"
Also this photograph appears to be cropped as other versions have several more figures to left edge
USHMM credits courtesy of Library of Congress but no other information is provided on it's origin or discovery
Other issues I have with photograph
1. The youthful looking individual standing directly to the left of the shooters arm, in the dark uniform, some suggest it is a youth member of the reich labor service (Reichsarbeitsdienst) but it doesn't look like the uniform, it actually looks like the black uniform worn by panzer crews as well as his cap looks like one worn by panzer crews
2. The soldiers are supposed to be waffen SS but aren't wearing any SS style collar insignia, although it is difficult to tell because of the poor quality of the picture, they look like more like wehrmacht bar insignia on their collars, also the shooter appears to have no visible insignia on his uniform
3. One individual near the left end of the photo appears to be wearing a white sweater of some sort, it doesn't look like any uniform, and since the area looks snowy i doubt it is a under shirt
4. If you zoom in on the shooters firearm, it seems it's a small gun compared to his hand as his fingers extend past the barrel, I wonder what kind of gun this is, although it could be artifacts in the photo, making it appear that way...?
If anyone have a better quality reproduction of this photograph or more information on its origin please post

codoh2107, welcome.
I'm not so sure about the appropriateness of your username, you are not someone from CODOH. But anyway.
The image is famous perhaps, but more phoney than a $3 bill.
I think it's funny that someone added the numbers below your image in an attempt to make it look 'official'.
I quote Udo Walendy, from 'Do Photographs Prove the NS Extermination of the Jews?:

Note there are no legs on the pasted-in men in the background.

Illustration Group 15 (a, b, c; next page) is said to document the execution of Polish Jews at the edge of an open grave.[42] Sometimes the shooting soldier is wearing glasses, sometimes he is not; sometimes his collar patch has white edges, sometimes not. Especially in illustration 15c he looks as though he was cut out and pasted in. There are white outlines around his uniform, and he lacks a shadow. The men at the transition into the background also look cut-and-pasted. Try to match their legs to their bodies! This is possibly a photomontage at best, but definitely, at least, a forgery with drawn-in sections. Again, this does not prove that the Germans did not shoot people, especially partisans, after they were condemned to death, and buried them in mass graves. This certainly happened and has been documented by the Germans themselves, since this was neither illegal nor unusual during time of war.

If it can't happen as alleged, then it didn't.
hi
It was an accident, I entered the verification keyword in the username field at registration
that was imageshack, i should have unchecked the option to show resolution, I got it from here http://www.aeronautics.ru/archive/wwii/ ... 0071-1.jpg
that is the best resolution I have found for this image on the internet
about Udo Walendy, it's true that the different contrast and modifications? appear suspicious, but unfortunately it's not conclusive proof because some are probably scanned from books, whereas a reprint from original or negative would have been better quality, more suspicious is that even the version USHMM has on their website is cropped missing 3 people from left end
http://www.ushmm.org/uia-cgi/uia_query/ ... uery=64407
compare to this version i found which has 3 extra individuals to the left
also about the firearm, which gun is so small that the fingers can extend pass the barrel?

And how come this 'Jew about to be shot' has no legs, why lumps for hands? And what is that added-in blob on his lap trying to obscure?
You are right, C2107, to no surprise to anyone with the ability to read, see, and think rationally; the laughable US 'holocaust' Museum theme park has been caught again.

Actually, it might just look so because the legs are behind the man and the fists clenched.

The pistol shown in ALL the photographs seems to be heavily re-touched.
It is definately not a P-08 or a P-38, the standard sidearms of german
troops during WW2.
It seems to be too small even for a Sauer Hsc or Walther PP or a PPC for that matter.
There were Mauser small caliber pistols (6,35- 7,62) in circulation among staff
Wehrmacht and SS officers, but this hardly the pistol a lowly 'executioner' would
possess.
In the first photograph, the belt bucle of the soldier posing immediately
behind the 'shooter' is a bit confusing the picture, one could think that these
are the fingers of the shooting hand. Not so.

Those were not yet invented. They were not available until 1951. The much larger TT30 and TT33s were standard issue, though police usually carried the revolver Nagant M1895. (which, is small, though as I say a revolver).
Re: Famous Einsatzgruppen photograph
well, as they say in court, beyond reasonable doubt" and I say there is enough doubt here to brand it a fake
