Dans sa livraison du 26 mai 2014, le journal isrélien Haaretz rapporte que l'Ecossais Alistair McConnachie a été exclu de l'UK Independance Party pour avoir publiquement déclaré :

"Je n'accepte pas l'idée qu'il a existé des chambres à gaz pour exécuter les juifs en raison du simple fait qu'il n'y a pas de franche preuve matérielle qui montre que de telles chambres à gaz ont existé," a [notamment] écrit McConnachie dans un courriel adressé aux membres de son parti. "Il n'y a pas de photographies ou de films de chambres à gaz d'exécution ... Des récits de prétendus témoins se sont révélés faux ou fortement exagérés".

Il a été vivement critiqué par la principale organisation juive du Royaume-Uni pour le soutien qu'il a apporté à David Irving. A propos de ce dernier et de son procès contre Deborah Lipstadt, rappelons que le juge Gray, dans un jugement long de 334 pages, avait été amené à écrire en 2000 :

"Je dois reconnaître que, comme la plupart des gens je suppose, je croyais que les preuves de l'extermination en masse de juifs dans les chambres à gaz d'Auschwitz étaient irrécusables. J'ai cependant abandonné cette idée préconçue après examen des preuves qui m'ont été fournies par les parties dans ce procès (I have to confess that, in common I suspect with most other people, I had supposed that the evidence of mass extermination of Jews in thegas chambers at Auschwitz was compelling. I have, however, set aside this preconception when assessing the evidence adduced by the parties in these proceedings)"

Holocaust denier campaigns against independence for Scotland

Alistair McConnachie was expelled from the United Kingdom Independence Party after publicly stating that the gas chambers never existed.

The first person to register as an official campaigner in the Scottish independence referendum, scheduled for September this year, is a Holocaust denier who has publicly questioned the existence of the gas chambers, the Scottish Herald newspaper reported on Sunday.

Alistair McConnachie, of Glascow, registered with the Electoral Commission as a so-called "permitted participant," last week, entitling him to spend up to £150,000 (880,000 shekels) in support of a No vote.

McConnachie, 48, was Scottish organizer of the right-wing United Kingdom Independence Party between 1999 and 2001 and stood as a Ukip candidate five times. However, he was expelled from the party in 2001, following comments he made about the Holocaust.

"I don't accept that gas chambers were used to execute Jews for the simple fact there is no direct physical evidence to show that such gas chambers ever existed," McConnachie wrote in an email to party members. "There are no photographs or films of execution gas chambers ... Alleged eyewitness accounts are revealed as false or highly exaggerated."

McConnachie also claimed the Pope was duped over the Holocaust and accused the Board of Deputies of British Jews of "seeking to establish a monopoly in the marketplace of ideas" because it complained to the BBC for running two interviews with the Holocaust denying historian David Irving.

Since March 2012, McConnachie has run a website called aforceforgood.org.uk, which campaigns for continued union with Britain within the United Kingdom.

Stewart Maxwell, a leading member of the Scottish National Party which is leading the push for independence, called on the pro-Union Better Together campaign to distance itself from McConnachie.

A Better Together spokesman said: "The fact that we had to Google this guy tells you all you need to know about his links to our campaign."

Cette traduction est fausse. Gray ne dit pas qu'il avait été convaincu par ces preuves. Il dit tous simplement qu'il avait (comme son travail de juge exigeait) mis de coté ces suppositions pour afin de pouvoir examiner objectivement les arguments qu'on allait lui présenter.
