Coutances: Vincent Reynouard condemned to two years prison (non-suspended) for Holocaust denial

This former mathematics teacher has already been condemned by the courts for similar acts. He appeared in court this Wednesday at Coutances for a video which called into question the extermination of the European Jews.

11/02/2015

During the court session this Wednesday afternoon at the tribunal of Coutances, the accused said that he did not want "to transform the court into a platform." The man nonetheless then unrolled the classic argumentation of the denier, invoking [the right to] liberty of expression and lambasting the Gayssot Act, "unconstitutional" according to him, which first instituted the offense of contesting the existence of crimes against humanity. At the bar, the former mathematics teacher, who was previously condemned in 2007 for similar actions, expressed his convictions without any beating around the bush, affirming himself to be a follower of the ideology of National Socialism.

At the heart of the trial this Wednesday: a video posted on the Internet which calls into question the extermination of the Jews of Europe and denounces the participation of youth from Lower Normandy in educational voyages to Auschwitz, voyages which form, according to him, a "brainwashing in the name of 'duty to remember.'" In the film of 45 minutes, hosted on an extreme right-wing website, the author attacks two memorial associations and uses images of youth from the region participating in commemorations.

While the defence of the accused aroused no surprise, the judgment delivered by the tribunal did not fail to make an impression. Vincent Reynouard was condemned to two years in prison, non-suspended, which is double the amount which had been requested [by the prosecutors] and double the usual punishment for this kind of crime (1 year of prison). The prosecutor, judging this punishment to be excessive, called for an appeal. There thus will be a second trial at the Court of Appeals at Caen.

The former mathematics teacher, soon to be 46 years of age, was also ordered to pay 3500 euros to LICRA (International League Against Racism and Anti-semitism) as well as 500 euros to the associations "D-Day Overlord" and "Westlake Brothers Souvenir." This latter organization plans to pass this money along to an English veteran to help finance his medical care. Finally, Vincent Reynouard must pay a symbolic euro to the community of communes [municipal federation] of Trévières.

Since the article says that an appeal has been scheduled (called for by the prosecutor! that's how outrageous this is!), it may be that Vincent is still a free man on bail. I don't know. I hope we'll get some confirmation soon.

In the meantime, let's keep Vincent and his family in our thoughts today.

Vincent Reynouard sentenced to two years prison (non-suspended) for denialist videos

11/02/2015

Holocaust-denying former teacher Vincent Reynouard was sentenced Wednesday to two years prison, non-suspended, for having distributed videos over the Internet which contest the crimes against humanity of the years 39-45, released last year before the seventieth anniversary of the Normandy landings.

The Correctional Tribunal of Coutances (Manche) doubled the prison time demanded by the prosecution for Reynouard, 45 years of age and already condemned once before to a year in prison for a denialist pamphlet in 2007.

Sentenced to pay damages to associations

The former teacher, banned from National Education fifteen years ago for expressing his denialist ideas during his mathematics classes, was sentenced in addition to pay damages to numerous organizations, with the highest of these payments (3 500 euros) going to LICRA (International League Against Racism and Anti-semitism).

His computer files have been confiscated, and he will also have to pay for the publication of the judgment in five national and regional newspapers.

Well known among neo-Nazis in France and abroad, Vincent Reynouard has previously been condemned to a year in prison and a fine of 10,000 euros in 2007 for distributing a pamphlet contesting the Holocaust, serving his sentence at the prison of Valenciennes after having been extradited from Belgium, where he had fled.

Reynouard defended himself without the assistance of a lawyer

At the beginning of 2014, he posted a 45-minute video, hosted on an extreme-right web site, in which he protested the "propaganda" which, according to him, was being circulated on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of D-Day, and criticized the educational trips by middle and high school students to former concentration camps, seeing in them a "brain washing" in the name of the duty to remember.

"We are very satisfied with the sentencing of this Nazi fanatic,"
said Chrisophe Collet, president of the organization Westlake Brothers Souvenir, which promotes the memory of the liberators, notably Canadian, and which was highlighted in the video.

Nonetheless, he has no illusions. "In no time there will be new videos of the same type," he forecast.

Seduced at a young age by Nazism, Reynouard, who lives in Saint-Lô (Manche), defended himself without the assistance of a lawyer.

I've reproduced pdhnm's formatting here since it brings out the more obnoxious points in the article. I'll just highlight one more piece of nauseating hypocrisy: "videos . . . which contest the crimes against humanity of the years 39-45." As anyone who's actually watched Vincent's videos will know, one of the points he repeatedly makes in them is that there were plenty of "crimes against humanity" on the Allied side too, the victims of which are all too readily forgotten in our pursuit of the "duty to remember." In fact, in the video in question in the trial ("Jeunesse embrigadée"/"Brainwashed Youth"), Vincent explicitly contrasts the pomp and circumstance surrounding D-Day and "Holocaust remembrance" with images of cemeteries of the victims of Allied bombardment in France which remain "hopelessly without flowers" (désespérément sans fleurs; @ 4:36 in the video below). But you're not allowed to notice that, are you?

This wasn't a high priority for me since it really is aimed more at French kids than at English-speaking revsionists, but I may just go ahead and translate it now, if only so people can see what "French justice" wants to put Vincent Reynouard in jail for two years for. I'm speechless with anger, but I'm not going to let that keep me from typing . . .

Oh yeah, one more thing. Notice how both articles refer to the video being "hosted on an extreme right-wing web site"? That web site is called You Tube, my friends, and while other sites of course may have linked to the video or even hosted it in the interim (including -- gasp! -- some that are "right wing"), the fact is that Vincent originally uploaded the video to his You Tube channel like any other person with an idea to share. True, You Tube eventually censored the video in France and yanked his channel, but that's only because of the harrassment by the usual suspects which led ultimately to yesterday's grotesque miscarriage of justice at Coutances. They could never admit that though: that would be allowing for the possibility that revisionism may be just another idea floating around in the great marketplace of ideas that is the Internet. So instead they crank up the guilt-by-association machine, and shriek hysterically at their readers about "extreme right wing web sites."

This is the level of dishonesty and disinformation we get from our media, "watch dogs of democracy."

Some good news for now. Vincent is indeed out on recognizance, presumably until the appeal can be processed. Speaking of which, phdnm just posted this down in the French forum:

Holocaust Denial: The prosecution appeals the sentence of Vincent Reynouard

12/02/2015

The man, who insisted on defending himself without the assistance of a lawyer, was condemned for the distribution of videos in which he protested against the D-Day commemorations, denying the existence of crimes committed by the Nazis. Problem: the punishment exceeds the previsions of the law

( . . . )

A sentence deemed illegal by the prosecution.

Problem: the punishment inflicted exceeds that provided for by the law. The prosecution thus announced on Thursday that it would appeal the sentence. "This punishment is illegal, it does not correspond with that which is provided for by the criminal code," declared prosecutor Renaud Gaudeul to the AFP [French Press Agency].

In effect, the law limits the maximum punishment for denialist statements or writings to one year [incarceration] and 35,000 euros in fines.

According to Renaud Gaudeul, "overreaction is always dangerous."

"It was me who took the initiative in the prosecution," he recalled, judging that "no one could reproach [him] for leniency" with regard to such offenses.

It's an interesting development, to say the least, that the prosecutor is taking the initiative to appeal the sentence. I wonder though whether it may not be a bit of trickery: by imposing an excessive sentence, then appealing it down to a year or so, the authorities can claim the high ground, saying that Reynouard got a fair sentence after all (one year, or whatever) and that it was at their own initiative, so no one can blame them for being excessive. Too conspiratorial? I don't know, I honestly don't know how corrupt the French courts are. If Vincent's lucky (and justice prevails), the Appeals Court at Caen could set aside the verdict altogether. Now that would be sweet.

After all, it's not the sentence which is the real problem (though its bad enough), it's the monstrous assumption that expressing an opinion on a historical matter can somehow constitute a "crime." If the Caen court wants to make history,* they should rule Gayssot unconstitutional, and set the ball rolling at last.

* You know, legal history, the kind they're supposed to make, lol.

Still free pending appeal, V. Reynouard responds to his sentencing to two years in prison on 11/02/2015 and reflects on why revisionists' calls for public debate are met with repression.

Professor Faurisson weighs in . . .

A month ago, millions of protesters gathered in France, notably in Paris, to show—even shout—their attachment to freedom of expression.

Today, what do these good people think of the fact that a French court just condemned the father of a numerous family, practically without resources, to two years in prison and to heavy financial penalties simply because he published the results of his research on a point of historical interest?

Vincent Reynouard was sentenced in these terms on the basis of the Fabius-Gayssot Law of 13 July 1990, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of only one year. It will be interesting to see how the Court was able to justify such a decision. For his part, the prosecutor appears to fear a voided decision (i.e., due to the excessive prison sentence) and that his prey might escape on that account. He is determined to see the "guilty" go to prison in earnest. He will insist on obtaining satisfaction.

The irony in this affair is that the Fabius-Gayssot law—a law sponsored by a socialist (Fabius) and a communist (Gayssot), and which is sometimes called the "Faurisson Law" (on account of its origin as an attempt to intimidate the present writer)—prohibits the contestation of "crimes against humanity" as defined and prosecuted by the International Military Tribunal (three lies in three words!) of 1945-1946 in Nuremberg. Inform yourself about the shabby and underhanded nature of this Tribunal . . .

1) which was both judge and party to the case

2) which, in articles 19 and 21 of its founding statue, stipulated that it would "not be bound by technical rules of evidence" and that it would "not require proof of facts of common knowledge but shall take judicial notice thereof"

3) which refused the condemned all possibility of appeal

4) which instituted the principle of collective responsibility and guilt-by-office

5) which considered as authentic evidence numerous documents and reports which later were revealed to be false, as proved to be the case with the alleged four million victims of Auschwitz, the "steam chambers" of Treblinka, the six million victims attributed to Eichmann himself by the Tribunal, and the crime at Katyn attributed to the Germans (though not mentioned in the Tribunal's final judgment)

6) which was in no way "international" but rather merely "inter-allied"

7) which had no military members apart from the two Soviet judges, one of whom, Nikitchenko, was the prosecutor at the abominable Moscow show trials

8 ) and which was no more than a means of "continuing the war effort of the Allied nations" as American prosecutor Robert Jackson himself said, etc., etc.

I am prepared to testify on behalf of Vincent Reynouard in case of appeal, and to demonstrate that today, on a scientific level, there remains nothing left—not one stone standing—of the appalling edifice of calumny that is 1) the alleged genocide of the Jews, 2) the alleged Nazi gas chambers, and 3) the alleged six million victims. An example: after the misadventure of the medico-legal inquiry into the "scene of the crime" and the cadavers found at Struthof by Professor René Fabre, doyen of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Paris—an inquiry completed on 1 December 1945—there has not been a single magistrate who has seen fit to order and obtain an expert medico-legal opinion of any sort demonstrating the existence and the functioning of such a weapon of mass destruction by means of gas. Evidence has been dispensed with in favor of "testimonies" and "confessions."

Vincent Reynouard: Two years in prison

Postby EtienneSC » 8 years 3 months ago (Sat Feb 14, 2015 2:40 pm)

The French revisionist Vincent Reynouard was sentenced to two years in prison on Wednesday 11 February 2015 for publishing four videos on youtube, with further fines and confiscation of intellectual property and assets. His accusers were some memorial associations in respect of one video and LICRA and CRIF in respect of three others. The bench was the tribunal correctionnel de Coutances, département de la Manche. The prosecutor considered the sentence excessive and has asked for an appeal.

Here is a video and an interview of Vincent speaking after the verdict:

Here is the principal video complained of:

(If removed, the title is ""Devoir de mémoire" : une jeunesse embrigadée politiquement ")
Some of the damages are to be transferred to an English veteran to pay for medical care. Given that said veteran likely fought for the cause of liberty, including liberty of expression, this is at least ironic. In my view, the money should be refused. If it were one of my relatives, it certainly would be.
