US Congressman Samuel Dickstein was a spy for the Soviet Union in the 1930's. He helped to set up the McCormack-Dickstein Committee which was used to investigate alleged fascist and national socialist supporters in America. This helped to divert attention away from the very real presence of Soviet spies and fifth columnists such as himself.

Stalin's Spy In Congress
There are 2 sides to every story - always listen or read both points of view and make up your own mind. Don't let others do your thinking for you.
Re: Stalin's Spy In Congress
I am sure that most people have never heard of Samuel Dickstein. His name has gone down the memory hole to use an Orwellian term. The Venona transcripts revealed the huge extent of Soviet communist penetration of key US government departments -

The MSM/Hollywood don't want to know about traitors such as these. They aren't interested in making movies or mini series about them. Can you imagine if Samuel Dickstein was a spy for national socialist Germany instead of the Soviet Union? I'm sure there would have been a big budget Hollywood blockbuster based on his life.

Re: Stalin's Spy In Congress
Not all Soviet spies were as successful at evading detection as Samuel Dickstein. Some were found out and put on trial. The most notable example would be Julius Rosenberg and his wife Ethel. They received the death penalty. For many years they had defenders who claimed they were innocent but with the release of the Venona transcripts their guilt is beyond doubt -

Yes, and the name would be widely known. Especially when it's a "Nazi Spy in Congress". I think some people recall the Rosenbergs though. But even this is ignored. Mentioning Soviet/Marxist infiltration of the political apparatus of the US is "McCarthyism". Implying that this is somehow tinfoil-headed conspiracy theories. The lasting effect of Marxist infiltration was however not directly in politics or the bureaucracy, but in academia and media. The result is present day Cultural Marxism with it's consequences in society and politics.
Re: Stalin's Spy In Congress
There are still some people who say communist infiltration and subversion in Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s never occurred or was exaggerated. But this is definitely not the case. Boris Morros was a producer at Paramount Pictures who also doubled as a Soviet spy. He was caught by the FBI and agreed to be a double agent. A film based on his story was made called Man On A String (1960).
