A very subtle difference in meaning on the old sign in the "GASKAMMER" at Dachau.
The German text reads
GASKAMMER gerant als "Brausebad"
war nicht in Betrieb.
Translation.
gas chamber known as "shower bath"
was not in operation.
English
GAS CHAMBER disguised as "shower room"
Never used as a gas chamber.
Like the saying goes, they can't even lie straight in bed.

It's indeed a bit odd. But it's probably simply said that way, since it was already earlier known that there was no evidence for this being used as a gas chamber. The peanut galleries in other camps were only established later with the narrative already being firmly established. Not that there evidence is better, but their believe is stronger.
