Japanese internment camps

Postby Fred zz » 1 month 3 weeks ago (Sat Apr 15, 2023 8:47 pm)

Here is simply an excellent video of the Japanese internment camps in the US during WW2
I post this so the viewer can contrast ALL the differences and similarities of the camps in Europe.
One needs to be aware that these US camps were not in a war zone, however the camps in Europe were and that is a huge difference.

110 min run time so grab your thinking cap and a cup of your favorite brew.

Why use the democratic euphemism "internment camps"??? Those places were concentration camps. Period.

Spain had used concentration camps (called "reconcentration" back then) in Cuba, the United States had used concentration camps in the Philippines and Britain had used concentration camps in South Africa many years before Germany opened its first concentration camps. And the 3 inventors of concentration camps had sanitary issues with epidemics in those places.

"[Austen Chamberlain] has done western civilization a great service by refuting at least one of the slanders against the Germans
because a civilization which leaves war lies unchallenged in an atmosphere of hatred and does not produce courage in its leaders to refute them
is doomed.

.....

Specifically for Boer Women and Children that is.

And Hitler pointed to this being where they got the name for those detention centers.

Yes,he said "the English brain gave birth to this idea [of concentration camps]" and "we've merely read about it in encyclopedias and later copied it" if memory serves me right.

Mr. Churchill is already dying to start it. He cherishes the hope, as expressed by intermediaries as well as by his own person, that bombardment should finally, and as soon as possible, feature in this war. And already they are crying that this war should not pay heed to women and children. For when has England ever paid heed to women and children?! After all, this entire blockade warfare is nothing other than a war against women and children, just as once was the case in the Boer War. It was then that concentration camps were invented. The English brain gave birth to this idea. We only read about it in the encyclopedias and later copied it-with one crucial difference: England locked up women and children in these camps. Over twenty thousand Boer women died wretchedly at the time. .Why should England fight differently today? We have anticipated this and we have prepared ourselves.

That was of course still before mass deportations. The British Boer War Concentration camps were essentially tent cities. In a country that can get freezing temperatures at night. The Boer War camps also had mass graves attached to them. And it should be added that elsewhere there was scorched Earth policy against farms and other infrastructure. The goal was to get the men in the field dropping their weapons.

It should be noted that one can openly question Boer War atrocities in South Africa (and elsewhere of course). And if opportunity arises, this is also done by historians, journalists, etc. No "Boer War Denial" laws will hold them down. And no academic fellows will reprimand them for this.
No 'War Crimes Trials' were there neither. And no apology from the British side was ever launched.

It was a contentious issue during the first decades of the 20th century, though. And I'm sure some people in the US, Europe or Israel were actually aware of this as well.

Very few people are aware that around one third of those concentration camp inmates died there, especially of respiratory diseases, the measles and typhoid fever, what compelled the British authorities of that time to deny that they were running "extermination camps " aka "death camps " [ sic ] in South Africa. Can you imagine what some talented & unscrupulous anti-British or pro-Boer propagandists would have done with those places if South Africa had been bombed back to the Stone Age for several years and those places had finally been captured by some victorious enemies of Britain needing to justify and conceal their own brutal methods of warfare? :bom:

The concentration camps in South Africa were instituted, while the British side was essentially winning the war. And yes, a large percentage of people detained there was killed. The concentration camp history left a lot of bitterness in South Africa. But it was never alleged that it was the policy of the British to exterminate all Boers.

I'd rather say that a large percentage of people detained there died. Portraying dead people as killed/murdered people is a Holocaustians' trick to fool people (as explained by Prof. Robert Faurisson when he said "We were led to take the dead for killed and crematories for execution gas chambers.").

That was alleged by some opponents of the British Government in Britain (Lloyd George among others) and abroad (in France, in Switzerland and in some other countries) during the Second Anglo-Boer War.

I'd agree, that this is better wording.

....

The British had a policy of Anglisation. Trying to eradicate the use of Afrikaans/Dutch in public places. That there were SOME that constructed more from this given the destruction that was actually unnecessary to large extend is however also true. From the British perspective it was a bit of a problem that there was a large White group of people that didn't regard themselves as British and that had also aspirations for self governance. They found other ways to manage this issue, though and they turned the amalgamated countries into a dominion "Union of South Africa". And there they had a mostly Boer party as governing party (South African party, later United Party) that was essentially doing policy for the British. Jan Smuts was for example quite eager to go to war for Britain.

The Boer War concentration camps functioned rather as a means of extortion as well. "Rather put down you weapons, or you won't see your family again."

The US-concentration camps for Japanese are however another matter still. It looks like a lot of social engineering involved there as well. That still needs more investigations about the decision making on the matter.
