Ebensee hospital

Postby Hieldner » 3 months 1 week ago (Mon Feb 27, 2023 4:21 pm)

In the Holocaust atrocity presentation below, concentration camp Ebensee is shown starting at 46:00. At 47:45 the narrator talks about the emaciated prisoners being in a hospital. Ebensee played a bigger role at the end of the war, with many concentration camp inmates being transferred first to Mauthausen and then Ebensee. Since Ebensee is a kind of health resort, it could be that they were sent there for the very reason to recover. So my question is if there is any further information on this hospital.

One of the more famous Holocaust photos is of Ebensee inmates

These are healthy Ebensee inmates

To provide soap for Germany … [Prof. Spanner] used, in the mode of the Shakespearean witches, racially and ethnically diverse corpses in his experiments … This defies the popular perception that the soap was made of “pure Jewish fat.” … We may consider this misperception a curious symptom of a purist and essentialist reading, or, at least, note that the tension between essentialism and utilitarianism reaches its peak in this misreading.

Good find. And it is clear that the second picture is from the same period than the one with the emaciated folks there.

Again. The best explanation isn't intentional extermination, but simply that prisoners became sick and that the food rations decreased over time. This isn't really a surprise considered what happened to Germany in the 1945. In fact it is a miracle that so many people DID actually survive. Was that BECAUSE the Germans/NS-government *wanted* them survive and even did ensure that at cost to their own well-being?!
