Were Jews pushed into banking positions by Christians?
Whenever I see people talking against the Jewish Question, I see a common argument they constantly bring up which is that Christian Europeans "forced" the Jews in banking positions. Is this true?

"Forced"? Why would anyone ever believe that? It makes no sense that Christians would "force" Jews into one of most powerful positions possible.
Here are the real facts which cannot falsely be blamed on Christians.

Jews were often found monopolizing the banking industry in the Middle Ages because they were allowed to engage in usury, which is lending money for profit. According to Christianity, usury was a mortal sin and the practicioner's path of greed was to result in eternal damnation in hell. Profiting from someone else's need, especially when they were so desperate, was seen as antithetical to compassion, generosity and charity.
Medeival Europe thus forbade Christians from becoming usurers but not Jews. Jews refused to mass convert and were outsiders, but because they were able to engage in usury there was a huge economic copportunity for them. This also happened in the muslim world where usury was forbidden as well.
Although this practice did enrage the local Christian population, it is inaccurate to claim that all (or even most) of the expulsions or pogroms of Jews had anything to do with usury. That's a total cop-out.
Usury was actually forbidden for Jews as well, but this practice was only applied in their dealings with non-Jews.
There were Christians that practiced usury, but they had to keep their activities more secretive, unlike Jews.
